Dr. Mihai Dorobantu is Director, Technology Planning and Government Affairs, Eaton Vehicle Group. He is responsible for developing the Group’s technology strategy and implementing it through advanced technology and proof-of-concept programs. He directs the Group’s innovation processes and its relationships with government agencies in the area of aggressive emissions reduction, as well as funding advanced technology.
Over the past ten years, Dorobantu is focused on technologies that simultaneously reduce CO2 and NOx emissions in transportation. He developed and implemented group’s heavy-duty vehicle electrification strategy and directs the group’s air management portfolio in advanced Diesel systems. His area of expertise in transportation spans engine and powertrain systems for commercial vehicles, electrical and hybrid propulsion, high-voltage power management, hydraulic systems and controls, as well as modeling and simulation tools that enable systems engineering and system optimization.
Prior to joining Eaton, Dorobantu was with the United Technologies Research Center, as a member of the technical staff, and later, responsible for modeling, simulation, controls and embedded systems. His experience there spanned applications aero-engine controls, vapor compression systems and building systems. He started his career with Comsol AB, Sweden, where he developed Finite Element Analysis codes for Partial Differential Equations.
Dorobantu holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from Stockholm University and Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, in the area of fast numerical solvers for Partial Differential Equations. He also serves on the 21st Century Truck Partnership Executive Leadership Team, Technical Advisory Board of NREL Mechanical and Thermal Sciences Directorate, and the National Transportation Research Center at Oak Ridge National Labs.
