The need to detect defects and concurrently generate critical measurements of Li-Ion foils, separator, laminations, coatings and Unit Cells during production has become paramount. Jelly Roll and Pouch Batteries must be defect-free to deliver maximum power and life and eliminate potential hazards. The talk will cover key production challenges associated with Li-Ion battery production; the need to concurrently increase throughput, yield and quality while reducing costs. Achieving these objectives requires the use of on-line laser inspection and metrology. Solid State Laser Reflection (SSLR) technology will be presented and real-world examples of how this technology is used, on-line, to detect defects and generate key measurements will be provided.
Introduction to new, proven laser technology for the on-line detection of defects (pinholes, dents, particles) and measurement of critical parameters (coating dimensions, alignment, pouch slot size and relative position to other parts of the cell). Technology is used on the production line or in a turnkey configuration for off-line use.
Quality, Engineering, Technology and General Management. The technology maximizes yields, throughputs and quality while reducing scrap and operating costs. Replacement of manual inspection operations.
